Rules and Instructions
Jeopardy is hosted by Roger as a fill in game.
In Jeopardy, two teams compete in giving questions to the answers that Roger will provide while building up their overall score. The team with the highest score at the end of the game is the winner.
Before the game, two captains are chosen and two teams are formed.
The captain of each team has the responsibility of submitting answers and also wagers for Daily Doubles and Final Jeopardy.
The Jeopardy! and Double Jeopardy! rounds each feature four categories, each of which contains five clues, which are ostensibly valued by difficulty level.
A Daily Double
is hidden behind one clue in the Jeopardy round, and there are two in Double Jeopardy! The team that selects the Daily Double
must declare a wager, from a minimum of 100 to a maximum of their entire score (known as a true Daily Double
).
The team is given the exclusive right to answer the clue but must do so. They can not pass the question to the other team. A correct response adds the value of the wager to the team’s score, while an incorrect response deducts it. Not answering the Daily Double also deducts the wager from the team’s score.
Daily Doubles are randomly placed prior to the start of the game. The board values are 200, 400, 600, 800 and 1000 points for the Jeopardy round and doubled for the Double Jeopardy round.
Before gameplay the two captains pick numbers between 1 and 15 and whoever comes closest is captain of team 1 and starts the Jeopardy round, while the other is captain of team 2 and will start the Double Jeopardy round. The categories are revealed and the game begins.
Team 1 starts the Jeopardy round by suggesting what category they want to their captain. Once the captain selects the category and value, the clue is read. The team suggests answers and the captain has up to 45 seconds to submit an answer. Failure to do so within the time limit passes control to the opposing team. If the captain responds correctly, the clue’s point value is added to the team’s score. An incorrect response deducts the clue’s value from the score and allows the other team the opportunity to respond. They have 30 seconds to do so. If a team passes on answering a question, points are not deducted from the score.
If the response of either captain is not technically incorrect but otherwise judged to be too vague to be deemed the correct response, the captain is given additional time to provide a more specific response. When the correct response is the name of a person, the surname is sufficient except in categories where the host explicitly states the full name is required.
Gameplay alternates between the two teams. The Double Jeopardy round starts with team 2 and is played the same as the Jeopardy round with doubled values and 2 Daily Doubles.
At the end of the Double Jeopardy round the two Final Jeopardy categories are revealed and the team that is behind picks one category, leaving the other category to the opposing team. The teams can suggest wagering strategies to their captain who will then provide a final decision. The clues are read in the same order they were picked and the captain has to submit an answer within 45 seconds . The answers are revealed and scores are added or deducted where appropriate. Final totals are given awarding the winning team the bragging rights for the night.
We look forward to seeing you in our game.
