You’re Out is a game hosted by Laura.
The object of You’re Out is to not finish spelling out a word. Each time that you do this, you will receive a strike. Get 3 strikes, and you will be out of the game.
If a player gives an incorrect letter in an effort to fool the next player, and avoid a strike, the error of his or her way should not be pointed out under any circumstances by anyone but the player who follows. . It is up to the player whose turn follows to catch this and challenge that individual. Having someone else key up and announce that this is not a word defeats the purpose of trying to escape the inevitable strike by tricking the next player.
If a player adds a letter to a word that completes the word, the next player can challenge the word, and if it is found to be a word, the previous player who added the letter that completed the word will still receive the strike. Most of the time, when a player knows that they are about to complete a word, they will admit that they have no other choice for themselves and will accept a strike.
Each player will have 20 seconds to add a letter to the word. When time is called, the player whose turn it is should be ready to key up with their letter. Once time has been called or typed in the window, the player will have only 3 seconds to key up with their answer. After the 3 seconds has passed which is determined by Laura, a strike will be given to the player who took too much time and the turn will be passed to the next player. Thinking while holding down the key in an effort to create more time for yourself will get you a strike just as soon as you release the key if you have gone over time. No help should be given to the player whose turn it is.
If a player enters the room late, and at least half the players in the room have 1 strike, the late player will start out with 1 strike as well. If the player enters the room with at least half of the other players all having 2 strikes, he/she will be given 2 strikes as well. This is done in an attempt to discourage players from coming in late so as to have a better chance of winning the game.
Also, if a player finds it necessary to step away from their computer for any reason, they will be given one free pass. Any subsequent turns that are missed after that will result in a strike.
Please remember that no proper nouns are allowed unless they have another meaning other than that of a proper noun. For example, the word dawn
can be a girl’s name, but it also describes the first light of day, so would be acceptable.
